Project details
Established in 1899, Burton Hockey Club competes within the MRHA (Midlands Regional Hockey Association) and promotes 7 men’s teams and 3 ladies’ teams. The men’s 1XI and 2XI play at the highest level, the Midlands Regional Hockey Association Premier Division, whereas the women’s 1XI take part in the Midlands Region Hockey Women’s League Division 1.
Requirement
We were appointed by Burton Hockey Club to construct a new full size synthetic grass Hockey Pitch at Shobnall Leisure Complex, Burton on Trent, tested in accordance with “The International Hockey Federation (FIH)”.
The design and build contract consisted of the removal of the existing redgra surface and all ground features, including: fencing and lighting and complete re-grading works to exposed stone base to create a new pitch footprint.
Once this was established, the collector and lateral drainage channels were excavated and the new drainage system installed.
The underside of the playing surface was a NottsPad XC 10mm depth specialist shockpad layer and a compacted upper granular stone base.
The playing surface was a state-of-the-art VHAF Notts Sward Leisure synthetic turf hockey pitch with line markings.
The works also included the installation of perimeter edgings, perimeter fencing with gates, recess area, floodlighting and spectator area.
Result/Outcomes
Excavated redgra on site was reused and levelled to form adjacent banking and landscaping areas to prevent waste from going to landfill.
