The construction of a new propulsion development centre as part of the ongoing expansion of British based luxury car maker at Jaguar Land Rover’s Engineering Facility at Whitley.
OBCL were engaged as Principal Contractor/Designer under a JCT Design and Build 2016 Contract for the construction of the new private High Voltage switch room building and car park facility.
The HV switch room facility serves the new the Propulsion and Development centre which is part of the Project Churchill works on the Jaguar Land Rover site at Whitley, Coventry.
The brick clad, structural steelwork building, built with a flat roof construction, has a 1 hour fire rated ceiling, waterproof Transformer pits and high security steel doors. The shell was nominally “fitted out “with earthing and containment ready to receive the switch gear.
The gear was provided by Schneider who were employed directly by JLR, but worked under the OBCL umbrella as Principal Contractor. A ducting network was also installed in order to serve the future expansion power requirements of JLR at Whitley.
As part of the design and build contract O’Brien have had to closely liaise between JLR, Schneider and Western Power to ensure firstly the facilities could accommodate JLR’s provisional future developments, and the containment/infrastructure was suitable for the Schneider fit-out.
A 72 space tarmacadam surfaced car park included retaining walls, drainage, and lighting to 5 lux were also created around the HV Substation to provide additional much needed space.
