  • Client: Worthing Football Club
  • Project: 3G Synthetic Pitch
  • Location: Worthing
  • Sector: Leisure
  • Value: £0.3m
  • Contract Duration: 10 weeks

Requirement

In our role as principal contractor, we constructed a fully porous 3G ‘third generation’ synthetic grass pitch designed to meet the requirements for playing 11 and 5/7 aside football matches.

The new 60mm ACT Global 3G synthetic grass pitch was designed and constructed to meet the requirements of the FIFA Quality Concept on the site of the existing grass pitch at Woodside Road in Worthing.

The works also included drainage, kerbs and a dynamic aggregate subbase under the carpet.

Steve Hillman, General Manager of O’Brien Sports said: “Worthing FC has an historic footballing pedigree and we are absolutely delighted our sports pitch credentials have lived up to the high standards they are seeking from a partner.”

Result/Outcomes

Worthing FC plan to use the new 3G pitch as a springboard to increase their profile and provide a hub for the community. The club expect an increase of approximately 1,000-1,500 players, plus parents, to use the new facilities each week at Woodside Road, with training and exercise for squads from toddler groups through to the first team.

The completed pitch received a FIFA two star rating.

Testimonial

“When I took over as the club’s majority shareholder, part of my vision included installing a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch that would help propel the club onto a higher level both on and off the field. O’Brien Sports understood the importance of the club’s strategy and approached the project in a very professional and pragmatic manner. The construction team were very meticulous in their work from day one and the end result – one of the highest standard playing surfaces in the league and also the region. The feedback from the fans, players and local community has been very positive and I am extremely optimistic about the coming season and the future.”

George Dorwell, Chairman, Worthing Football Club
