Blythe Valley Park is an established 2 million square feet master planned campus for businesses and employees, strategically located in the heart of the UK, surrounded by stunning parkland and leisure facilities.
O’Brien Contractors Limited were engaged directly by IM Properties, one of the UK’s largest privately owned investor developer’s, to construct a new 600 space carpark within their prestigious Blythe Valley Park as principal contractor on a JCT Design and Build 2016 contract.
A new Western Power Distribution upgraded electric supply was installed, along with 10 lux LED lighting system and state of the art CCTV security system, along with the provision of advanced prepay/pay on the day electric vehicle charging points.
The project also consisted of the plane off and resurface of 18000m2 of the Blythe Valley existing estate roads. This work required specialist traffic management to be installed and elements of the work being undertaken “Out of Hours” to facilitate the minimal disruption to the Park.
One of the major considerations for the client was the phasing of the new car park as part of the works involved the redevelopment of an existing 250 space temporary parking facility, with this volume of spaces needing to be maintained through the construction period. By OBCL sequencing and phasing the build, the facility continued to operate with no disruption to the users.
Through early design involvement with the client and using the expertise of the OBCL in house geomatics team, we were able to reprofile and redesign the carpark to optimise the existing levels. We were hence able to offer the client a generous saving on the Tendered sum and along with programme improvements.
