Our latest update for West Longbridge:
The works on site continue to progress well, with the new road bridge over the River Rea almost complete and finishing works to the tarmac road running through the site due to be completed by the end of September.
Landscaping works are about to start and will be completed early in 2023 with a phased opening to the public from the summer. A new riverside footpath and cycleway will be formed that links the Town centre with Rubery Lane. There are plans for play areas, outdoor exercise equipment and a wildlife trail. Planting to the walkways and all along the River are scheduled to start in November.
West Longbridge Development, Regeneration Scheme
O’Brien Contractors are currently working with St Modwen, Wakemans, and Rodgers Leask as Principal Contractor on one of the largest regeneration schemes in the UK, at their exciting West Longbridge mixed use development site, next to the River Rea.
Longbridge is a long-term £1 billion initiative to breathe new life into one of Britain’s most famous industrial areas. As home to ‘The Austin’, Longbridge was once Europe’s largest car factory and gave birth to visionary automobiles including the iconic Mini. Today, a new identity is being forged for an thriving mixed-use hub of workplaces, homes, shops, cafes, event spaces and parkland, where residents, businesses, students and visitors can live, work, study and play.
O’Brien are providing infrastructure works to the 45 acre site, with substantial earthworks, Section 38 highway works, S104 drainage works, roads and cycleway, highway bridge construction over the River Rea, utility works and landscaping works.
The works were secured via a PQQ and competitive tender exercise.
These works unlock building plots to allow future development to commence which will bring additional employment to the local area. Works on this site are currently ongoing, commencing in December 2021 .
As part of our commitment to the communities in which we work, O’Brien donated to two local charities:
We donated £1,000 to the Trussell Trust B30 Food Bank in Birmingham who provide emergency food and support to people in need.
We donated £1,000 to West Heath Community Centre in Birmingham
