O’Brien Contractors recently worked on the AT7 Leisure Centre extension which involved the construction of 2 swimming pools and a 216 space car park for Willmott Dixon in Coventry.
- Client: Wilmott Dixon
- Project: AT7 Leisure Centre
- Location: Coventry
- Sector: Leisure
- Value: £1.2m
- Contract Duration: 45 weeks
The contract involved a main pool measuring 25x13m alongside a learner pool at 13x8m with associated services and drainage.
O’Brien’s work included waterproof concrete to basement slabs, retaining walls, pool structures and reinforced suspended decked slabs to pool and flooring area.
The waterproof walls involved additional specialist work in order to construct multiple service points for filtration systems and cables for the swimming pool pumps. We also made provision for future play equipment including a two storey multi-lane slide, once the pools reached completion.
In addition two permavoid tanks were installed in a restricted area with minimal cover. The 8,000sqm tank alongside the learner pool was designed to manage surface water along with the 20,000 litre back wash tank that will allow the water in the main swimming pool to be kept at a constant level.
We also constructed a 4,500m2 car parking facility, for the provision of 216 vehicles, with associated services including lighting, lighting columns and CCTV. Groundworks, kerbing, landscaping, external works and the erection of a new footpath were also in the package.
