Construction of the new main campus building at Northampton college for SDC Construction.
All substructure works, including land remediation, cut/fill operations to the required levels, all foundations, the construction of a reinforced concrete basement and reinforced concrete retaining walls to make the best use of a stepped and sloping site and all floor and roof slabs. Drainage works included all foul and storm along with rainwater harvesting tanks and the construction of balancing ponds.
The existing college buildings were progressively demolished during the construction sequence leading to a logistically challenging project where space was at a premium.
During the three phases of works, which were completed to allow the college to remain operational during the construction period, O’Brien Contractors also undertook the Section 278 works to create two new entrances on to site, including the construction of new roundabouts.
New service yards and hard and soft landscaped areas were completed to the perimeter of the building as well as to the quadrangle at the centre of the college buildings
Two new car parks completed the project.
