It’s-not-boom-time-for-everyone-civil-engineering-birmingham

Although nationwide the construction sector is seeing a slow return towards the boom times of lots of projects to choose from, sadly there are still lots of companies that won’t be around to do so.

Earlier this year, Construction News reported that despite the strong signs of recovery we saw in the UK construction sector during 2014 things were starting to look rocky again when big players, namely GB Buildings Solutions and PC Harrington, both went into administration. Around the same time, they ran another article detailing how the number of firms in significant financial stress had risen 45%.

So even though there has been a new surge in confidence as the Conservative government settle in for another term and projects are on the up, at the same time people are wary of committing to a project in case the contractor they choose is no longer around to deliver it when the time comes, or capable of seeing it through to the end once they’ve started.

But as we start looking ahead to 2016, there’s expected to be a steady growth in output of around 3.9% so analysts are saying there’s cautious optimism about next year and also the three years following that as we head towards the next general election.

At O’Brien Contractors we can confidently say that we’re going to be around delivering projects both as Principal Contractor and in partnership with other firms to the next election and beyond. We’ve invested and diversified during the recession so that we’ve come out even stronger with new skills, a qualified, experienced and motivated team, and even more services to offer our clients.

Our Managing Director, Peter O’Brien, said: “The construction sector is always going to go through lean times and boom times and we have been around to see many ups and downs in our fifty years in business. What’s seen us through until now, and will continue to keep us successful into the future, is our ability to adapt quickly to market conditions and use quieter times to focus on training and development so we’re always up-to-date with the latest best practices.”

This approach has seen our business grow but the biggest driver of our success and longevity is the trust our clients put in us to deliver their projects on time and on budget, which is something we pride ourselves on always doing.
